Arrival in Thailand

After a 26 hour journey we made it to our small hotel in Chiang Mai and it was lovely to have a shower and get changed and I'm looking forward to sleeping flat tonight and not on a seat. Our taxi picked us up at home at 6.15 Wednesday morning with a very chatty driver and we learnt a lot about the state of the taxi business in Fleet. We sped through terminal 2 at Heathrow and Martin had a thorough look around as he spent 9 months there during the rebuild.

Our first flight was a short hop to Cologne then the 11 hour haul to Bangkok. We flew with Eurowings (part of Lufthansa) and though we were on a very cheap fare we did get some food and free entertainment thank goodness. The flight was mostly made up of young backpackers so we pulled the average age right up! On arrival at Bangkok we ate in a cafe - 8am Thai time, 1am body time and Martin had a green curry - I had toast and jam! We had another 4 hours to wait for the 3rd flight so we went through to the departure gate and slept laid out on the seats.

We played safe on arrival and took a metered taxi to the hotel but I definitely want to go in a tuk tuk soon.

We whatsapped Kath to wish her well for her long flight today   (off on her 4 month trip starting with NZ for 5 days on her own before joining Jess and Ryan in Wellington) then we went to the Night Bazaar for a wander and some noodle soup with beef. (As I'm writing this I am nudging Martin's leg to keep him awake so we don't wake up wide eyed in the middle of the night.) I have a chart for the next 2 months showing where we all are each day and the time differences!
