Thursday

The weather wasn't up to much this morning so we drove slowly along to Nelson thinking we might freedom camp in the town. On the approach to the town it was quite a culture shock; traffic lights,  dual carriageway and traffic.  The freedom camp was just in a car park and didn't start until 5pm so we just stocked up at a supermarket and drove on to Pelarus Bridge. This was a DOC site but had hot showers and even powered pitches. There were unpowered pitches in a lovely riverside setting but I'm afraid the thought of being able to use our heater and have toast in the morning won the day.  We went for a walk along the river to see waterfalls.  We were the only ones in the powered area and I confess I got Martin to come with me to the loo in the pitch dark!
