Bullet train

To get to our next stop, Hiroshima, we booked a fast train back to Tokyo then the bullet train onwards to Hiroshima. When we were waiting on the platform at Utsunomiya two bullet trains sped through the station......the speed was incredible and we stood there open mouthed.

As per, everything at Tokyo station was organised and on time. To save a bit of money we hadn't reserved seats but there are queueing lines painted on the platform and clear indication signs as to which carriages were for unreserved seats. The mean looking, sleek train arrived and there were cleaning teams at the ready;

All the linen seat head cloths were changed and all seats swivelled so we would face the direction of travel.

The train was amazing; quiet, smooth, spacious and so fast. The staff removed their hats and bowed when leaving the carriage.

It was our third and last opportunity to see Mount Fuji but again it was cloudy so this is yet another photo showing where it should be!

When we walked through Hiroshima station two policemen approached us......had they caught up with us for crossing at red lights?! One of them showed Martin some text written in English and Japanese stating that they were police and part of their job is guarding tourists and could they help us? A camera crew joined us and filmed Martin getting directions.

After checking in we walked to meet Kath at her hostel, had dinner with her and planned the next day. Kath had already had 2 days in Hiroshima and was catching the night bus out the next evening. As the weather looked good for Wednesday we decided to go to Miyajima island.
