Quirky

The taxis are old style cars and are driven by men in suit and ties most of whom wear white gloves;

There are buildings full of really noisy slot machines, busy day and night;

Women get their own carriages during the morning rush hour;

The Japanese are so courteous, bowing all the time. They wait for the green man before crossing even if there is absolutely no traffic coming. There is no litter - there are hardly any litter bins. Bird song is played over loudspeakers in the subway. White umbrellas are available at shops, hotels etc and can be borrowed from one place then left somewhere else. There are loads of staff at train stations, manning car parks, guiding vehicles across pavements etc, public service is top priority.

These are road barriers;

Loos with inbuilt bidet facilities (with female and male settings) and heated seats are commonplace;

Toilet block;

Put a marble in the slot, a bell rings and you say your prayer;

At a subway station we were all puzzling over the automatic ticket machine so decided to press the Call button for help. Surprise! A hatch opened above the machine and the station master poked his head out! It was so funny and we were tempted to do it again - its the 1 picture I regret not taking.
