Day three

Lucky with the weather again as we planned to walk the city walls. Our first stop though was to meet up with Sir Robin on Sanjula. We went on board and chatted to him and Dilip who is another solo round the world sailor. Sir Robin keeps a list and you can only join it if you have sailed solo round the world sailing round the three capes which includes going south of Australia. It was a fun morning as Sir Robin is quite a raconteur. The boat is fabulous especially the huge double bedroom with ensuite head in the stern!

This sight brought back lots of memories;

We then started our walk around the wall and I learnt quite a bit about the history of Derry (Martin had walked the walls before). We went into the bogside which was quite an experience. I didn't feel especially comfortable over there but, again glad to have the experience. As with many towns we have driven through some streets have union jacks flying with kerbs painted red, white and blue then the next have the Irish flags flying.

After an afternoon resting our feet and watching the Tour de France we went out after supper to watch the evening river parade and fireworks. The Clipper boats and others were festooned with lights and paraded up the river. The riverfront was packed with spectators and quite narrow so we found a good spot to watch near the exit so we could make a good getaway at the end.

Great children's entertainer;
