An emotional moment at Torres

On Monday our breakfast time was 7 until 7.45am with the next shift starting at 8. We were still in the dining area at 7.55 when a couple came in. They hadn't realised their voucher was for the earlier shift. The staff refused to allow them to have breakfast. I couldn't believe it as there was plenty of food and seats available.

I collected our lunch bags. Both had a bag of nuts. When I pointed this out to a member of staff she shrugged and said you don't have to eat it.

We hiked back up at 9.00 to see the Torres again and it was a much better day weatherwise.

Whilst we were chilling I saw a young couple hugging nearby. I thought ahhh they are having a nice moment. Then I realised it was more than that - it was a proposal! After a few minutes I went up to congratulate them and used their camera to take the photos which will eventually end up on Facebook - I hope they come out ok. I was quite emotional and the bride-to-be was crying with shock (the groom-to-be had been adamant he would never marry) and happiness.

Mandy and Laurent!

I took a photo and said I wrote a blog and I would write about this romantic moment. We had a chat and swapped details of the blog and Facebook. They hail from Canada and are a lovely couple and we wish them a long and happy marriage.

On the way down we met the Irish boys again. As the weather was better they had decided to come in again for the day! We saw them later and they said it had been worth it. We also bumped into our guide from the day trip, Claudio who was leading a group up the mountain.

The season doesn't really get going until December but we are so glad we avoided peak season. The paths were already busy - there must be horrendous queues at the 'only two at a time' bridges.

All was well with my dinner and the company was great as we were sat with three Kiwis and had a good chat.

This very large bird was a regular at the river by the campsite. Have since discovered its a Traro, a type of Falcon.
