Phew!

On Monday afternoon whilst I was wondering around town I passed the Aerolineas Argentina office and thought about getting our boarding passes. (They don't really do electronic ones.) The office was packed so I didn't bother.

On the Tuesday evening I popped  down to see the owner to say we were checking out at 9.30 the next morning. She has very limited English and we had used Google Translate a lot. However she was cleaning another apartment and we were standing outside. I said we were flying up to El Calafate and she started to gabble away shaking her head. I managed to get that the airline was on strike, all flights were cancelled and she said look at the news. Oh my! That's why the office in town had been so busy. Back up to tell Martin. We looked online and saw that the strike was a 24 hour one which had started midnight Monday. They were still cancelling over 50 flights on the Wednesday......

What a relief - our flight was OK so we missed that nightmare by the skin of our teeth.

The flight was short and we got a transfer to the hostel. The hostel sleeps about 40 but there are only 5 guests including us at the moment. We are now in the Glacier region. The sky is blue and there is no wind. El Calafate is a pleasant town - neatly kept and free of rubbish and graffiti. There are still lots of dogs though and this morning we were followed by 2 all the way into town. Yesterday one came into the supermarket and was chased by the security guard with a water spray.

We have just stopped over for one night and this afternoon we get a 3 hour bus to the north of the region for four nights before returning to stay here for a few nights.
