To Wales

Off for our month in Wales. The journey was very quick to the Severn bridge and as we crossed the sun came out. I had planned a walk up the Wye Valley to Tintern Abbey thinking we would be walking next to the river. But we started by climbing up a steep hill to the Eagles Nest look out with a view back to the two Severn bridges and Chepstow racecourse.

The walk continued at a high level within woods so we didn't really get a view but it was a good starter walk to get us ready for the rest of the trip. Eventually we reached Tintern Abbey and sat by the river to eat our lunch. We could see quite a bit of the Abbey and weren't paying £6.90 each to go inside. This time last year coincidentally we were at Tintern Abbey in Ireland.

It was a long walk back to the car round the back of the hills still within woods so we took a short cut. Along a track a chap passed us in his truck, pulled into a layby, got out holding a gun and fired it over a crop field. A whole host of crows took off, the chap got back in his truck and drove away. How many times does he need to do that each day? Eventually we reached our car. As we drove out of the car park we looked at each other as we could hear a lot of wind noise and realised the boot was open. Fortunately nothing had fallen out.

After a pretty drive we hit roadworks on the main Heads of the Valleys road which went on for some miles but eventually arrived at our first Airbnb. We have an annex of a house so we are self contained. A week ago the host wrote and asked what sort of homemade bread and cake we would like and there waiting for us was a lovely Bara Brith and a granary loaf.

I took a quick photo of the view of the Brecons from the back garden - good job as we haven't seen it since due to the weather.
