Yet more drizzle

The weather forecast constantly states 10% chance of rain yet it drizzles all of the time so we have learnt to ignore the forecast and go out prepared for getting wet.

I planned a walk from Southgate to Pennard Castle for today - I have brought my OS maps but they date as far back as 1974 so we are relying on the Viewranger app on Martin's phone which is excellent.

It was a really good walk and the weather improved for a while. Along the coast we passed some houses which had fabulous views but I thought they were quite isolated with no community hub. We rounded a corner and there was the hub - a great shop with a post office, community notices and a cafe. We sat in the sun for a cuppa but resisted the cakes. The paths are very muddy and I have slipped a few times. Thankfully at the end of this walk the paths were thick sand. It started to properly rain as we got back to the car- good timing again.

In the afternoon we visited Rhossilli beach and walked up to Worms Head. There was a lookout manned by Coastwatch volunteers and we had a chat with them. Worms Head gets cut off by the tide so there are several incidents each year of people getting stranded which the Coastwatch need to deal with. One of the volunteers said that at this time of year they get 'walkers' and the trouble starts when the 'tourists' arrive. Especially when the 'Birmingham navy' arrive in the summer, taking boats out!

We still hadn't finished our day - we drove back to Mumbles, parked up and walked along the prom. After sharing a bag of chips we returned home for a lovely long chat with our hosts.
