Saturday 3 May

Sunshine? No such luck! No sun today only mist and heavy rain and still quite a few people. We still walked for hours and saw more than we did yesterday though and it was worth it.

Cousin Caroline - thought of you and George (in the nicest possible way!) when we heard cuckoos calling in the woods. Lots of finches around but the only waterfowl were mallards.

We had one stroke of luck. Instead of boarding a boat which pops across the width of the lake we tagged on to a party of Japanese boarding one of the boats which take people to the other end of the lake. There was a guide who gave a commentary and it was in English - result. But most of all it was hilarious watching the Japanese.  They didn't listen to a word- they were up and down swapping seats and taking endless photos. Some sat looking miserable with umbrellas up against the wind, hats on and scarves over their faces. However, if a camera was pointed at them down everything came and they smiled broadly. So, a free commentary and entertainment!

We returned to our room drenched. We have until 10.45 tomorrow to get everything dry as it's 'zbogom' to Croatia and we go by bus and train to Ljubljana in Slovenia. Looking forward to spending my birthday wondering round the city on Monday.
