When we were sitting by the river in the twilight an animal swam by - I said it was an otter, Martin thought it was a rat. It would have been a huge rat! I googled it today and otters do live in the river.
Ryan: knowing your predilection for burgers- Slovenians eat horsemeat and our hostel's recommendation for a meal out was the Hot Horse - their speciality are horse burgers and no we didn't go!
This morning we packed up and moved on to Bled in the north of Slovenia under the Julian alps. We are staying in another hostel but this is a true backpackers place so I hope we get some sleep.
The sun was shining so we dumped our bags and climbed up to the castle for the view of the lake which was fabulous. Tessa: I thought of you here in 2011 watching Sophie in the rowing world champs. We then walked round the lake which is 4 miles but we went slowly and took lots of pictures.
The church on the island has 2 traditions. Bridegrooms carry their brides (who must be silent) up the 99 steps to prove their strength. Also, anyone who rings the bell can have their wish granted. Plenty of boats were delivering tourists and the bell was ringing all afternoon.
