Well we survived Zadar - by that I mean for our 2 dinners there we had bought a barbecued chicken from a street vendor. Luckily it was delicious and there were no repercussions.
We walked around the Old Town for the day and returned in the evening to see the famous sunset and the lights on the Greetings to the Sun which should be accompanied by tunes from the Sea Organ but there were far too many people to be able to hear.
We were up early the next day to catch a normal public bus for the 2 and a half hour journey to Plitvice Lakes. The journey took us inland through mountains to the more rural Croatia - quite different from the coastal region. Impressed with the bus company- just as we entered the national park a chap got on board and made sure everyone got off at the correct stop nearest their accommodation.
We spent the afternoon walking round the Lakes which would be wonderful without all the tourists! Without people it is reminiscent of Rivendell in the Lord of the Rings. At the very least umbrellas should be banned; hard enough keeping footing on paths without having to avoid getting eye poked out. We wondered whether we should move on instead of staying 2 nights as we had walked round the majority of the lakes and falls. However we decided to stay as, if the sun shone the next day we would see the beautiful blue colour of the water better and if we got to the park early we may miss the crowds.
