Today we had a 7 hour bus journey 315km across the country to the capital Phnom Penh. Again we opted for the VIP bus with air conditioning etc. The journey went quite quickly and we stopped am and pm for a 10 minute break and for 30 minutes at lunchtime. We both had a doze despite the driver constantly beeping the horn at the wayward scooter drivers. The view from the window was endless litter and abject poverty.
At the service station.......
Martin made a friend!
Some British and Canadian tourists travelling in the opposite direction joined us at the table and we passed a pleasant half hour swapping travel tales and tips.
The ubiquitous tuk tuk drivers were waiting at the bus station and, as per, I left the negotiations on price to Martin. After checking in to our small and again cheap hotel, we had a stroll round the local area - if possible it's more manic than Siem Reap. Back at the hotel we had a cold beer by the pool and the hotel's Aussie owner came to have a chat to warn us in advance that the hotel was hosting registration for this weekend's Frisbee tournament. Players began to arrive - they have travelled from all over Asia (mostly ex pats) for this annual event. 7 a side, unisex teams and each game lasts about an hour and 20 minutes.....in this heat they must be mad.
