We awoke to see this weather from our window in Dunmanway;
There were several possible walks on the Beara Peninsula so we decided to start driving and play it by ear. The first option was Sugarloaf mountain but that was shrouded in cloud. The rain turned to drizzle and we had a quick cuppa stop in Castletown Bere.
This town claims to be Ireland's largest white fishing port. There are claims wherever we go - Ireland's longest street, highest pub even the 'World's Only Lord of the Rings Themed Bar'.
As we continued west the weather cleared and the sun came out. We walked the copper mine trail in Allihies which was well sign posted and there were no other walkers on the trail.
There were lovely views all along the way;
On the way back down into the village it was warm enough just for t shirts.
Allihies was absolutely dead quiet, not a soul around.
It was then a long drive to Killarney on some narrow lanes but with different views round each corner.
We arrived at our next digs ready for a cuppa and supper but our host Liam was very keen to whisk us off on an orientation tour of Killarney which was actually useful as he showed us trailheads, gave advice re parking etc. He also showed us the lakeside hotel he is a Night Manager in. Liam lives on his own and is comical. We have had to try to tune into his accent to pick up the quiet jokes - sometimes we just have to laugh when he laughs when we haven't understood what he has said!
