Killarney

Liam's house looks small from the outside but there are 3 bedrooms. We have a sofa in our bedroom and can use the kitchen. Today he had two satellite TVs installed - one for his sitting room and one for us. Bit shocked at the installation price of €500 which didn't include the cost of the TVs.

After the long drive yesterday we picked the closest walk today - the lake loop in the Killarney National Park. The Killarney area is beautiful and reminds us of our lake district. It is also the wettest area of Ireland. We walked a 9 mile loop which took us 3 hours. After 1 hour the heavens opened and we were drenched by the end. We sat in the car and quickly ate our sandwiches before coming home to dry off and have a hot drink.

Just before the rain came down;

Torc waterfall;

Muckross Abbey & House;

Once we had dried out we set off out again to Ross Castle which is on a peninsula on the big lake. We walked another 3 miles so my feet ached by the end of the day.

At one point as we were striding along the path Martin suddenly grabbed me and pulled me to a halt. There just a few yards to our right were 3 deer just staring at us. By the time we quietly pulled our cameras out they had backed off into the trees.

Even though we had walked many miles we still found the energy to walk into town for a drink in a bar after dinner. We noted that there will be traditional irish music there on Thursday so we will return,
