To Connemara

We faced a long drive from Doolin to Connemara so broke it up with a few stops including a quick photo of the house used in the Father Ted TV series.

We had a walk around Galway which has a medieval quarter, a very old Spanish arch and a pleasant harbour.

We chose to take the slower coast road which is part of the Wild Atlantic Way which we have been following. The scenery was lovely. As we neared Connemara we noticed that a lot of the signs were just in Irish - as this area is renowned for. That made for some challenging map reading.

When we arrived at our accommodation we couldn't believe our eyes. The house is set in an area of outstanding beauty and we could see a seal on the rocks at the bottom of the garden. After meeting our hosts (Brendan, a Community Youth Worker, Miriam who runs the B&B and their daughter Erin) we walked down the lane to see more.

The B&B is at the top of this picture;

The government gives landowners grants to preserve the landscape so quite a few older people have donkeys which are easier to manage.

Our host family are lovely and our room very comfortable.
