Dorothy, our host is a lovely lady who was widowed last year. She ran the farm with her husband Tom for over 40 years, raising 6 children as well as fostering a young girl called Maeve. She was also called upon by other farmers as she had special skills helping ewes which were having difficulty during lambing. From her home she can see 3 other houses over the fields in which some of her children live with their families including one of the sons who now runs the farm. We met him plus another son, one of her 13 grandchildren and Maeve. The whole family were lovely. We sat and had a real heart to heart chat with Dorothy about all sorts of things for a long time after the match - she is very religious so she is not at all keen on the 8th amendment being repealed and she opened up to us about her marriage and Maeve's life.
They took us up to see the newly born calves and we had the odd experience of having our fingers sucked by some of the braver ones.
I had planned the night as just a stopover on our way from Cork to Kerry but it turned out to be a really pleasant stay.
