The first thing I did on waking up was to check the Calmac ferry app and was relieved to discover that our ferry was running OK from Tobermory to Kilchoan on the mainland. There are only spaces for 12 cars and no pre-booking so we set off fairly early and got in at space number 5. The ship was moored alongside and it took ages to start up and come round for us to board but we caught up on time over the course of the 30 minute journey.
As we got out into open water the ship started to roll just a bit and the owners of some super large Harley and BMW motorbikes rushed down to hold onto them for the rest of the journey.
Once off the ferry we all drove in convoy with the bikes leading for an hour as the roads were only single track. Finally we turned off to find the start of our 4 hour walk which was aptly described as stunning and challenging.
On the beach there is an open bothy - very basic accommodation for hikers but what a setting. There were 5 chaps staying and we had a chat with one of them who said they were just about to wash in the stream so to ignore their girly screams when they got in the icy water.
It was just a 15 minute drive to our Airbnb so we went via Arisaig station in the hope of seeing the steam train but, although we were there at the right time the afternoon service had stopped running for the winter. Still we had been to the;
