Thursday - huge walk

The plan was for a 10 mile hike, parking the car at Kilmarie......more like KilSarah by the end! It was nearer 12 miles on some difficult paths and I stopped about 2 miles before the end once we reached the road and Martin went off to fetch the car - my hero!

A bit along the first path this ghillie  passed us, on his way to take some people out stalking deer.

We caught up with them a couple of times later on. They had seen a few deer on the hills but, even with binoculars the animals were very hard to spot.

Views on the walk

All this trip I've negotiated boggy areas but today I had a Vicar of Dibley moment. I stepped, thinking I would squelch down a couple of inches as usual but it was an actual hole and my right leg sunk right up to the top of my thigh and I fell forward. I was covered with mud and wet and freezing!

It was a beautiful walk actually!

I think what really finished me off was the last mile or so before the road which was on a very narrow uneven path on the side of a steep hill with already tired legs and feet, mud everywhere and the knowledge that there were still several miles to go.

I sat and waited for Martin near this figure which was in someone's garden.

We got back to our shed and I took my trousers into the shower with me to get the worst of the mud off. Raurie our host arrived and offered for us to do a load of washing so that was really handy.

He was a lovely chap but very busy with a croft and 2 airbnbs to run a part-time job at the community campsite and a mum with dementia to care for - all single handed.
