There were heavy rain showers forecast for today so we decided to drive up to Stornoway. It took over an hour and a quarter but finally we arrived and parked in Tesco's car park.
In the showers we walked around the town and looked in some of the shops. There are several pieces of art scattered around including statues of herring girls with details even of the strappings they wore on their fingers.
We treated ourselves to a cuppa in a cafe as the weather was so miserable. The cafe had doodle books scattered around the tables so Martin added a sketch of a highland coo.
We walked over the river to Lews Castle and the museum on Outer Hebridean life which was really good. To my delight it had some of the infamous Lewis chessmen on display.
The rain really set in in the afternoon so we drove straight back without stopping at the three bird of prey spotting places I'd planned on visiting. Along the way we just got past the large Senior School at leaving time. There were at least 9 coaches and minibuses leaving the site to ferry the children right across the island to their remote homes.
I'd found a Wasgij, my favourite type of jigsaw in a charity shop in Stornoway so that was our evening entertainment sorted for the next few nights.

I love the photo of the herring girls and the 3d boat sculpture, all so detailed x
